History of Kayakalp

This clinic was started by Mrs Jyoti Dhamdhere in 1974. Concerned about a relative experiencing excessive and unwanted hair growth, she sought the expertise of a renowned dermatologist, Dr. Mohan Gharpure In Pune. He introduced her to Electrolysis, as a medically approved solution for long term hair removal. Due to time constraints, he was unable to personally treat patients with such conditions, and therefore asked Mrs Dhamdhere if she would be willing to learn the technique herself.

Mrs Dhamdhere had always harboured a deep interest in the medical field and aspired to pursue a path aligned with her passion for healthcare.

This pivotal incident ultimately led to the founding of 'Kayakalp Electrolysis Clinic'. Mrs. Dhamdhere then undertook the study and practice of electrolysis, diligently honing her skills by working on her own legs for nearly a year. Only after gaining confidence through rigorous self practice did she proceed to treat her relative marking the beginning of a journey from which she never looked back. She further deepened her expertise by studying electrolysis at the esteemed Jane Riddle Institute in the United States.

As she began treating patients, she observed that Indian skin type differs significantly from European or American skin types, necessitating tailored treatment approaches. She was initially using a Britain-made electrolysis machine designed primarily for European skin.

So with the assistance of an electrical engineer, she modified the instrument to better suit the specific needs of Indian skin. Likewise, she modified the needles to enhance their effectiveness and safety for Indian skin types. Although Electrolysis is traditionally a time-consuming procedure, her innovations significantly reduced the duration required for effective treatment.

In 1989, after fifteen years of dedicated service, Mrs Dhamdhere was joined by her daughter in law, Mrs Ujjwala Dhamdhere who revitalized Kayakalp with a fresh vision. Expanding the clinics scope, she began treating not only women but men seeking removal of excessive facial hair.

The decade from 199 to 1999 marked Kayakalp’s Silver Jubilee, a period of remarkable growth and success. With nine treatment beds and a team of ten skilled electrologists, it had become India’s largest clinic specializing exclusively in electrolysis. In 2019, Jyoti's granddaughter and Ujjwala's daughter, Dr. Avani Dhamdhere, joined Kaykalp. Dr. Avani , a qualified Physiotherapist, brought her own unique expertise to the family legacy.
